be a tourist
Earliest Human Relatives, 1994 ©Hiroshi Sugimoto
I’m getting inspired looking at Hiroshi Sugimoto’s Dioramas from the Museum of Natural History. Now is the time to be a tourist in New York, look up, pay attention, and not let the city’s identity pass me by. (How will I sneak a tripod into museums?)
Jane I love Sugimoto’s work too.
As to the tripod, if you ask in writing and explain your purpose they should grant you access with a tripod
You can also ask the Mayor’s office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting for a permit:

I, too, was intrigued by the dioramas and took some hand-held shots with my digital camera which I posted last summer. You can see them here: http://palmaire.blogspot.com/2007/07/american-museum-of-natural-history.html
I also contacted the natural history museum in Philly about photographing their dioramas with a film camera on a tri-pod, and they very graciously agreed to let me spend an afternoon there. I didn’t do much with the images in the end, but while their exhibit is smaller, it is old and interesting as well, and I am glad I got to see it.
